A tip from a clairvoyant leads him to a barn where he discovers his late father’s hidden obsession: a pristine 1964 Shelby Cobra Roadster. Seizing his chance for freedom, Neal’s first stop is a tobacco farm to pick up his best friend, Ike, and together they set off on a wild adventure. With their eyes set on the Palm Springs race tracks and prize money, their journey becomes a whirlwind of seedy motels, stiff drinks, and encounters with cool swimming pools, hot debutantes, burnt rubber, and cigarette smoke. Along the way, they adopt new pseudonyms and personas, with each stop pushing them deeper into a game that spirals from innocent fun to the throes of decadence and desolation.
