Histoires de Parfums - Characters - 1899 -Ernest Hemingway
Born on the verge of a century that changed the world order, Ernest Hemingway was involved in the most crucial events of his era. From the US to Spain, from Italy to Paris and then Cuba, Hemingway's journey tells us a lot about his beliefs. Founder of a new genre, his writings portray a new view of the world, where reality and fiction are blurred, and words are parsed for meaning.
It figures that the scent named for him is equally masculine, uncompromising, and yet, surprisingly approachable. We associate cigars and humidors with Hemmingway, and this is exactly the atmosphere in 1899: a rugged, resinous tobacco accord spiced with plenty of black pepper and iris, for an airy lightness that keeps the structure legible and accessible. Although not sweet, it is rich and powdery, with a beautiful citrus-almond background that hints at winter sunshine in Cuba. A rich, grassy vetiver and vanilla combination form echoes of Habanita and rolling cigars in the base.
