ADONIS AWAKENS draws inspiration from The Awakening of Adonis, a celebrated painting by John William Waterhouse, the second artist highlighted in our Artist series. Waterhouse, renowned for his mastery of the Pre-Raphaelite style, beautifully captured themes of ancient Greek mythology in his works.
In Greek legend, Adonis, the god of beauty, desire, and renewal, met a tragic fate while hunting. Aphrodite (known as Venus in Roman mythology) rushed to him and, in her haste, cut herself on a thorn. This act transformed the pure white rose symbolizing her love into a vivid crimson bloom, stained by her blood. Her kiss then awakened Adonis, symbolizing the eternal cycle of life and love.
