État Libre d'Orange - Eau de Protection
Eau de Protection is a very special rose fragrance that was made for the Spanish actress Rossy de Palma, whose extraordinary face defines many of Pedro Almodovar's films. Rose is Rossy's favorite flower - she is named after a rose, and she grows many varieties of the flower in her own garden. But more than anything, this perfume is a reflection of Rossy's portrayal of women on screen - multi-faceted women who swing between whore and mother over the course of hours, and still rule the world with their own brand of fiery integrity.
This is a perfume that attracts with honey and cocoa, and then bats you off with pungent ginger, metallic blood and geranium. It is a strongly sexual, bloody rose, one that drips in blood and thorns as a warning to all those not strong enough to approach her. It is a talisman and indeed, an eau de protection that can be worn to ward off danger. This is what the perfumers have to say about it: "Defensive yet transparent, Rossy conceals as it reveals. For her, a caress is demanded, while those around her are struck with awe. The noses have extracted that which is most profound in her, the essence of her. They have distilled her honey and squeezed the juice from her heart."
