A masterpiece of Symbolism, this work portrays Danaë as an enduring emblem of divine love and transcendence. The subject was widely celebrated in early 20th-century art, reflecting the allure and mystique of her mythological story.
According to legend, Danaë was imprisoned by her father, Acrisius, King of Argos, in a bronze tower. There, she was visited by Zeus—represented as a cascade of golden rain. Klimt’s depiction reveals her ecstasy and surrender, enveloped in a royal purple veil that signifies her imperial heritage. From this divine union, she later bore Perseus, the hero fated to slay the Gorgon Medusa and rescue Andromeda.
This fragrance translates that myth into a sensual and divine journey. It opens with luminous citrus notes of bright bergamot and Sicilian lemon, followed by a seductive heart of spicy pink peppercorn layered with deep woods—gaiac, cedar, and cashmere. The base unfolds into an intoxicating blend of patchouli, Mysore sandalwood, and musk, leaving a lingering aura of mystery and passion.
