Tiziana Terenzi – Luna Collection – Lince
Lince, the constellation of the lynx, is known for its numerous double stars, which at night appear like a series of signal fires pulsing in the dark, sending warning signals out to fellow travelers and dreamers. On a particularly dark and cold night in late winter, Paolo and Tiziana were in Palermo with their grandfather Guglielmo and the rest of the family. In the city, preparations for the solstice celebration were in full swing, and the people seemed to brim with the special kind of euphoria that fills people just before a big event. This particular festival is to bless the new harvest, and showcase the fruits of the hard work of farmers in the fields. Luck, their grandparents swore, would descend upon the place, and so they drove into the night brightly lit with fires and streets festooned in bright colors and the air thick with the hypnotic scent of hundreds of different flowers. The tart fruitiness of Sicilian citrus opens the scent in a fresh, sparkling manner, its slight bitterness underlined by bergamot, orange, and grapefruit notes. The scintillating burn of the citrus is steeped in the dark green glory of absinthe, a shadowy herbal note that is half booze, half medicine. This gorgeous, semi-bitter herbalcy is reinforced by the odd sweet-and-savory tang of star anise and green tea, which introduce an ethereality, a haziness into the scent’s structure. Really, very charming, with tons of character.
There follows a full and luscious floral heart, led by a fleshy jasmine note, sweetened and made more feminine by a Bulgarian rose, powdery iris, Italian neroli, and a phalanx of ripe, trippy figs. In the base, a double cream vanilla anchors the fruit and steadies their course, bathing them in a gently custardy glow. Musks and Indian sandalwood complete a rather exotic impression, the sweet excesses of the Orient brought into line by an almondy heliotrope, the flower beloved of midwives for its faintly babyish, tender aura and total lack of guile.
