The Vagabond Prince – Bass Solo
Bass Solo is a love poem to the noble wenge wood of the African plains. A bridge between the humid saltiness of tropical rainforest trees and precious, oud-resinated woods, the fragrance imagines the scent of this beautiful, dark wood. Wenge, although not fragrant in and of itself, is a coffee brown, almost black color with cream striations. Prized for its color and depth, this precious wood is commonly used to carve the most exquisite musical instruments in Africa and Europe.
The perfumer imagines that wenge smells like creamy, resinous sandalwood mixed with salty driftwood, and moist, coffee-like cedar wood. The rhythm of the wenge-carved instrument – the Basso Solo – is intense and brooding, its beat building over time to create an exciting tension. Curls of smoky tar waft up through the base and succulent, sweet peach moistens the dry woods. Now this is one melody we want to hear over and over again, the sensuality of a whole continent wrapped up in the dark, swirling woods of this instrument.
