The Different Company – Adjatay
Adjatay tells the story of a wild, untamed tuberose captured and subdued by the smoothest piece of leather you’ve ever experienced.
In the outskirts of Grasse, the legendary capital of perfumery in the South of France, all kinds of precious flowers are cultivated. One beautiful summer day, Luc Gabriel, Art Director of The Different Company, happened to be in Grasse when he came upon a solitary clutch of tuberose blooms. Unable to help himself, he bent down and plucked the flowers from the earth and held them to his nose to inhale deeply.
Entranced and seduced, he longed to preserve the narcotic aroma for as long as possible, and therefore wrapped the flowers up carefully and placed them in his soft black leather case, where they remained for several days. Upon his return to his home in Paris, Luc opened his leather bag and chanced upon the most divine scent caused by the mingling of the heady tuberose bloom with the soft leather insides of his bag. He tells the story thus:
“When I opened the bag a few days later,” said Luc Gabriel, “this incredible scent of leather and tuberose burst out, overwhelming, demanding and sensual, the tuberose aroused the silky animal notes of my worn bag back to life. I decided at once to capture that moment in a fragrance. “
