Pierre Guillaume Paris – PG22 – Djhenné

Family: Herbal, aromatic, woody, leather

A teasing delight for the senses – both herbal and balsamic! Djhenné was inspired by a town called Djenné in Mali, a veritable oasis of greenery and shade in the middle of the scorching hot African desert thanks to the river that runs through it. The scent represents the dichotomy between the damp, cool shade of under the large plane trees there where people rest and the blisteringly hot, sandy environment directly outside this damp greenery. It is, therefore, a fragrance with many interesting contrasts.

Djhenné is a fragrance of two opposing halves – warm versus cool. The floral freshness of syringa blossoms (lilac) rubs up against the warm, green smell of hay left out to dry. A cool, snappy leather note mingles with the slightly hot, mineral aroma of sun-baked sand. Most startling of all – a photorealistic portrait of wheat, thick and almost bready, framed against little herbal spikes of mint and lavender. This is an unusual, shape-shifting perfume that pleases and teases in equal measure. The fragrance is rounded out in the base by a slightly bitter, balsamic myrrh note, a raspy cedar, and honeyed cocoa beans. The base is sweet and slightly powdery, and forms the perfect cushion on which to rest the startlingly original dance between hot, sun-baked wheat and cool, damp herbs.
