État Libre d’Orange – Je Suis Un Homme
A vigorously masculine perfume made to replicate the fresh accords that would have been present in Napoleon’s beloved cologne, which he would spray copiously on himself before heading off into battle. Napoleon came from the wild isles of Corsica and thus this perfume contains all the famous scents of his native island, including the intensely green, anisic smell of mastic shrubs, oiled leather boots, smoky birch wood, and of course, the richest cognac in existence.
Classic and old-school at first, Je Suis Un Homme opens with a fantastically bitter combination of bergamot and leather, which eventually softens and settles into a richly-spiced, boozy sweetness with the addition of cognac, clove, and cinnamon. Finally, the shiny booth and belt leather of true generals emerges, thick and pungent, with smoky myrrh running up the back. The rum and leather notes seem to multiply in richness towards the late drydown – masculine force melting into the day’s end reward of booze and leather chairs.
Notes: Calabrian bergamot, lemon, orange, cognac accord, myrrh, cinnamon, clove, animal notes, leather, patchouli
