Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle – J.C. Ellena – Bigarade Concentrée

Perfumer: Jean-Claude Ellena

In the summer of 2001, when launching Cologne Bigarade, Jean-Claude Ellena did not begin to imagine that this new fragrance for Editions de Parfums would set another landmark in the history of Eau de Cologne. Commercially, Cologne Bigarade was an immediate success but certain clients requested a more intense version of this subtle smelling cologne. In other words they wanted an Eau de Toilette bearing this smart freshness. Breaking the rule of the Editions de Parfums which usually insists that each fragrance should only be sold in one concentration, the two partners agreed, after smelling numerous new options, that pumping up the concentration from 4% to 12,5% (weight volume) ended up creating a very unusual and interesting equilibrium. Extremely novel, this scent is characterized by its long lasting, though natural smelling freshness, which contrasts with the «technical smelling», fragrances one can find in today’s marketplace.

Based on a new bitter orange essence developed especially for Jean-Claude Ellena and obtained by molecular distillation, Bigarade Concentrée imparts a bitter freshness. Its overdose of hesperidic notes combined with a touch of rose expresses a unique natural transparency. A woody base of hay and cedar adds lusty warmth.

Bigarade Concentrée: A lasting natural freshness.

Bigarade (bitter orange), Cardamom, Rose, Hay, Cedar.
