Acqua di Parma – Note di Colonia IV
Acqua di Parma’s entry into the Note di Colonia for 2017 is Note di Colonia IV. As each Note di Colonia pays tribute to an important Italian opera, so too does Note di Colonia IV, specifically Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, the tragic story of lovers from two ends of the social spectrum. Manon and Des Grieux love each other in a steadfast and passionate manner through the worst trials and tributlations, and therefore, this perfume is a celebration of that enduring love.
The opening notes of green tangerine and bergamot flood the scent with a piercing brightness akin to throwing open the shutters and letting the morning light in. All is optimism and joy. Then, in the heart, a honeyed Turkish rose melts happily into consort with sweet orange blossoms, for a union that is beautiful and pure. In the basenotes, the resinous darkness of labdanum, patchouli, and opoponax rises up to close the door, creating a sense of love and partnership that is shaded with the bittersweet experience of life and survival.
